Strategic Planning with Non-Profit Board of Directors
The Board Chairperson recognized the Board was not operating effectively because the Board’s structure and guidelines had been loosely developed. Beyond the Seat performed a needs analysis, and designed a development plan for ineffective Board of Directors operations. Work was centered on effective board management strategies to help the board succeed in its ability to create a strategic vision with effective group dynamics to make the best decisions for the organization’s long-term success.
The needs assessment results revealed the need for more clarification of roles, a revised strategy for board member selections, and more effective board dynamics. The commitment from all board members to review the assessment results together led to the development of comprehensive Board of Directors Standard Operating Procedures that serve as the Board’s operating roadmap and training tool that is utilized regularly and reviewed in planned Board retreats at least annually. Beyond the Seat's analysis and recommendations improved Board dynamics and increased operational performance and commitment from the members.
